Our Institution

Yogoda Satsanga Kanya Vidyalaya is situated in the Lakhanpur locality of Purulia district in West Bengal on national highway 60A connecting Purulia to Bankura and Durgapur. The institution was started as a residential gurukul school by Yogoda Satsanga Society of India (YSS) in 1958 with a vision to uplift all girl students deprived of proper education in this far flung remote area of West Bengal. YSS had embarked on this missionary journey with immense dedication and commitment to accomplish the aims and ideals of its founder Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda. Swami Bidyananda Giri, a swami from YSS initiated the establishment work of the school with monumental courage and diligence to carry the legacy of Gurudeva forward.

The institution has a sprawling campus on capacious acres donated by the benevolent Chaudhuri families of Lakhanpur. The institution is a monastic administration adhering to the ancient ashram lifestyle. This ambience fosters in the students the art of disciplined living and arouses within them a sense of social consciousness. As the old saying goes “The noblest search is the search for excellence”.

The school has exhibited excellent results in the Secondary and Higher Secondary examinations conducted by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Examination. This is because of the consistent and sincere work of the students with the constant guidance of a teaching workforce comprising 26 teachers assisted by 3 non- teaching staff. The school has received the Nirmal Vidyalaya Puraskar in 2016 for ensuring good cleanliness and upkeep of the school.

The school boasts of a full fledged residential facility (hostel) with a capacity to house nearly three hundred students.

Studies apart, the students of the school have added extra feathers to their collective hat. The students have invested their talent and creativity in a number of extra and co-curricular activities and have bagged prizes and attained acclaim participating in various events. Indeed, the school has earned the rare recognition that the students who pass through the humble portals of the institution make excellent home makers later on in life.

Last but not the least, the value system of the institution encompasses charity and social work as an inevitable part of the academic achievements. Especially, the charitable work cheerfully and enthusiastically undertaken by the teachers and student volunteers during the annual mega eye camp conducted at Lakhanpur Ashram has been exemplary and has been highly appreciated by the beneficiaries. These habits help to mould the students into duty conscious and upright future citizens.
